Thomas J. Seigel is a partner of Zeisler & Zeisler, P.C. Tom has been a litigator for over 15 years with extensive trial and appellate experience. His practice focuses on the representation of individuals and businesses in criminal and regulatory investigations and in commercial and securities litigation. He has represented clients in state and federal courts and in matters before the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Department of Labor, the Connecticut Banking Department and the New York County District Attorney’s Office.
In private practice, Tom has represented individuals and corporations in a variety of civil and criminal matters including securities fraud actions related to Bernard Madoff investments, the defense of a stockbroker charged with embezzling client funds and the defense of a global apparel company sued for environmental remediation costs under Connecticut law. Tom also has extensive experience with corporate internal investigations, including the examination of related party transactions for a public company and the investigation of environmental, health and safety issues for a New York City agency.
Following law school, Tom was a law clerk to the Honorable Theodore McMillian of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. After spending three years at a private New York law firm, he joined the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York as an Assistant United States Attorney. During his eight years as a federal prosecutor, he rose to the rank of Chief of the Organized Crime and Racketeering Section and prosecuted and supervised a number of high-profile cases involving racketeering, money-laundering, securities fraud, murder and corruption.
Tom has been appointed a member of the Criminal Justice Act panel in the District of Connecticut by the United States District Court. As such, he is called upon by the Court, from time to time, to represent indigent defendants in federal criminal matters.
